For many years there was only one direction for many young people: away from the countryside and into bustling urban life. However, at least after the lockdown due to the Corona pandemic and the increasing use of home offices, priorities have changed. The daily commute to work is no longer necessary and people are spending more time within their own four walls again. As a result, more and more families are moving from the city to the countryside for the benefits of building and living in the countryside. Below we present the 5 most important reasons to build in the country.
MORE HOME FOR YOUR MONEY

Astronomical prices for real estate in or around the city push many people to look for an alternative in rural areas. It may be that a square meter of land costs only a fifth of the price charged in the city. Furthermore, the offers in urban areas are very limited, while you have much more choice when you decide to build in the countryside.
Consequently, you can set more or less the same budget for a house with a garden in the countryside as for a small apartment building in a large German city, which means that for the same price you will get more living space and garden. And if you don’t have to travel far to work every day, you won’t have to worry about higher travel costs.
MORE FREEDOM AND SPACE
If you have decided on a house in the countryside, you will be rewarded not only with a larger property and more living space, but also with more freedom in construction. Where in the city new construction must be based on local development, in the countryside you usually have more leeway in the architectural design of your dream home. Here the spacious corner bungalow with hipped roof or the modern flat roof house in Bauhaus style are much more likely to be approved than in the city. And thanks to the larger living space there is even more space for personal development, for example in the form of a wellness oasis or an additional study.
More exercise and distance from neighbors only comes with the larger property. You can relax in your garden and enjoy unlimited access to the outdoors. Your children have space to play and can run around without worries. Having your own house with a garden creates a special attitude towards life and simply makes you happy.
FRESHER AIR AND MORE NATURE
The rural environment also contributes to happiness. Relaxing walks in the nearby forest or across large fields are only possible in the countryside. Strenuous physical exercise in the fresh air calms the mind and relieves stress, while you can simply take a short walk in the artificially created city park in the city.
Since country air contains fewer fine particles and harmful substances than city air, by building in the countryside you also make a positive contribution to your family’s health. Children who grow up in a rural environment have a significantly lower risk of developing asthma or allergies. This was demonstrated by a large-scale study published in 2013 (source: PubMed®). This too is quality of life.
LESS TRAFFIC AND MORE PEACE
If you live in the countryside, your life will be more peaceful and relaxed. In an urban environment, noise and commotion can hardly be avoided. In your country house, however, outside you will only hear the happy singing of the birds.
Even though every homeowner in the country owns at least one car. The traffic volume in rural areas is completely different from that in the city. Traffic jams here are only known by hearsay or by going on holiday.
In rural areas it is not even necessary to travel further to reach nurseries, schools, doctors or supermarkets. In many large countryside towns the infrastructure has now improved to such an extent that the only disadvantage compared to the city is a more limited cultural offering and a lack of shops for leisurely window shopping.
MORE SOCIAL CONNECTION
The community factor is also much higher in the countryside than in the city. Where everyone in the village knows each other, the individual disappears into the anonymity of the big city. As a result, the relationship with neighbors in the countryside is much more personal than in the city. This means it takes less effort to ask for help or offer support on your own.
The point is that there are good reasons to build and live in the countryside. So don’t hesitate to contact your nearest construction partner and start building together with them in the countryside
