Now the growing season begins and, like every year, the question arises: which trays and growing equipment are still available from last year and what works really well so that the plants can grow optimally and become robust to be able to go outdoors soon. Year after year we expand our self-sustaining garden and almost no longer buy young plants. As a result, we need equipment that is durable and actually works. In this blog post we would like to introduce you to the long-lasting steel grow plates and reveal how you can water sensitive young plants without them falling over.
Because we’re tired of plastic seed trays
So far we have mainly worked with plastic grow trays. However, in spring, when they were let out, they often became porous because they could not stand the sun’s rays and temperature changes. Small plastic pots flew around the garden at the first breath of wind if they were not yet full and so the plastic growing equipment bothered us more and more. This year we wanted to do it differently and were looking for a long-lasting, high-quality solution because we were tired of having to buy new growing trays and pots every year because the plastic trays were broken again or the pots were missing. After a few days of research, we came across the Gartengorilla company. There is a lot of equipment and tools for the garden and obviously also for cultivation.
Growing tray with 70 individual steel pots
This tray is a high quality, long lasting solution for growing young plants indoors or in a greenhouse. THE Growing tray (available here) is made of sturdy steel and has 70 individually removable individual pans. One seed can be sown in each pot. On the sides there are two rubber plugs which are used to drain excess water. You can fill the tray with water, let the plants absorb the water and then open the cap so that no water builds up and the water that the plants don’t need that day can drain out. This is best done outdoors or in a greenhouse. If you have the tray at home, it is better to leave the plugs inserted. It’s absolutely you and nothing drips onto the floor. We currently have the growing tray in our living room near the sunny window. Even indoors there is no leakage, the floor remains clean and you can easily wash the pots and the entire tray after growing so you can use them again next year.

In addition to herbs we mainly sow our home-grown artichokes. We let some of last year’s flowers bloom and then cut them back in the fall. We have now removed the small seeds and started sowing them indoors. The seeds grow very slowly and are then admitted into our garden in May. Until then, they will grow beautifully in Garden Gorilla’s nursery pots.
Water young plants adequately
Young plants can tip over quickly when watered because they grow very quickly and are still quite unstable. Irrigation water or water spray can cause plants to tip over and die. This can be avoided with a balloon shower. Even a sprayer is often too intense and, above all, time-consuming if larger quantities of young plants are preferred. The quick and simple solution is this Shower with rubber ball (available here) from the garden gorilla. We use the shower head with a capacity of 500ml. This means you can quickly and easily water the entire growing area from above. Newly sown seeds are quickly washed off with a sprayer or conventional watering can. With the rubber shower ball you can water gently and, above all, evenly. You can easily fill the rubber ball shower by holding the hose in the water, pressing the rubber ball and then the water will be sucked out. With light pressure you can then water the seeds or young plants using the shower. Since we have it, we no longer want to do without it. No other irrigation solution has impressed us so much because it simply works!
