The issue of emergency supplies worries many people. If you want to purchase supplies for an emergency, you should think about what might actually happen. When stocking up, you should pay special attention to high-quality foods that won’t spoil. Our body is more resilient when it is well supplied with nutrients. Rice, pasta and sugar strengthen the body calorically, but the immune system falls by the wayside.
What supplies are important?
It is important to ensure that you and your family can support yourself and your family independently for at least two weeks. However, you should not panic and consider which scenario might happen and which probably won’t. We will list what you can have in stock at home.
Fresh products that have a long shelf life
Are canned foods useful?
When it comes to canned food, we recommend purchasing canned food rather than canned food, as these are less harmful to your health. However, canned goods are easier to stack. So if you have limited space, you need to evaluate things.
- Tomato sauce/chopped tomatoes
- Beans
- Rote Beth
- Chickpeas
- Parsnip
- Salsify
- If necessary, ready-made stews (especially in case of power outage)
What about frozen products?
Frozen products provide nutrients and vitamins and have a long shelf life, provided of course there are no power outages. Subsequently these products are no longer useful and deteriorate rapidly. Obviously you can’t prepare most of them.
In the event that a power outage does not occur, a moderate supply can be created. In the event of a short-term power failure, less than 24 hours, you must keep the freezer closed at all times. The food then remains frozen. If they take longer it is better to prepare them first, otherwise they will spoil. For example with a gas stove. The following are suitable:
- any fruit and vegetables
- Frozen spinach, for example, is great for a simple dish
Packaged foods that can be stored without refrigeration:
- Lenses
- Chickpeas
- All types of dried legumes (you can also germinate them)
- Brown rice (organic)
- Tagliatelle
- Vinegar
- High quality vegetable oils
- Dried herbs
- High quality flour
- Unrefrigerated tofu
- Nuts
- Dried fruit
- Wholemeal biscuits
- Rice pudding
- mile
- Quinoa
- oatmeal
- Ghee
- Honig
- Vegetable drink
Water purification and recycling plants
It is particularly important to have a water reserve, both drinkable and useful. Drinking water can be purchased in 5 or 10 liter cans and stored for many months. However, these are mostly made of plastic. Of course, if you have enough space, you can also purchase a larger supply of drinking water in glass bottles. It is important that all family members have drinking water for at least 2 weeks. If you drink 2-3 liters of water a day, you should stock up on at least 40 liters of water per person, because if the power goes out or the water is permanently contaminated, you can no longer drink tap water. For example, useful water can be collected in rain barrels in the garden. Here you can quickly add up to 300-500 liters if you can integrate a barrel into the gutter. If you don’t have this option, you should think about a water filter or natural water recycling system. We are not talking about a water filter for the home connection, because it is no longer reliable in such an emergency.
Hygiene items and rubbish bags
Although this category is not food, it is still important. Essential hygiene products should also always be available at home. Because you probably can’t be sure if there will be a garbage collection service and there will definitely be garbage. You should also always have candles, matches and fuel with you.
What about micronutrients?
So if you don’t just buy empty calories which, to put it bluntly, ensure survival, you can get by for a while with higher quality, shelf-stable foods and still provide your body with micro and macro nutrients. It is very logical to be sufficiently supplied with micronutrients. It is also important to have a sufficient supply of water. Herbal teas and teas in general are also an important base.
Whatever happens, we remain relaxed. Cistus, for example, is an ancient medicinal plant that can also be of interest against viruses. Click here to go directly to cistus tea (click).

Dried and preserved wild plants: create your own supplies
It is worth collecting and preserving nature’s free gifts. You can dry many wild herbs and medicinal plants, prepare wild herb powder, dried fruits, boil fruit puree, jam or juice, and prepare ointments for your medicine cabinet.
