You can make a great citrus cleaner yourself with orange or lemon peels and it’s a breeze too. How does it work? It’s extremely easy and practically free. You also get a wonderfully scented eco-cleaner that can really do something. How is citrus cleaner prepared?
- Zest of 3-4 untreated oranges, emons or limes
- a jar with screw cap and lid
- 200 ml table vinegar or vinegar essence (diluted)
Citrus peels cost nothing and actually end up in the garbage. But why throw them away when you can use them to make a great cleaner? Simply scoop the peels into a screw-top jar and pour the vinegar over them. It is important that the bowls are completely covered with vinegar. Since they float to the top, you may need to add more vinegar if necessary. Now the jar is closed and set aside for about a week. After this time the color of the vinegar will have changed. Now it’s quite dark, almost brown. This does not mean that the liquid has spilled. If when you open the screw cap jar you smell a fruity citrus scent, it means that everything worked. All you have to do now is remove the shell parts or pour the whole thing through a strainer and pour the liquid into an empty spray bottle.

What can you clean with organic detergent?
You can use the undiluted cleaner, for example, to clean the bathroom, as the homemade eco-cleaner does an excellent job of removing limescale. You can also clean the floor and achieve streak-free cleaning even on glass surfaces. If you are not sure whether the surface can be cleaned with this product, you should try it on a small, hidden area first. In reality nothing can happen because in theory you could almost eat the cleaner. The cleaner lasts about six months.
We don’t need most of the cleaning products we can buy. Hundreds of cleaners, which increasingly resemble a chemical club and are sometimes not good for health, are no longer available in our homes. Since we have been using the citrus cleaner, the apartment naturally smells fresh and thanks to the essential oils we are in a much better mood and can clean ourselves much better with a clear conscience.
