The project New York Bagels and Burgers (#NYBB) it combines the atmosphere of American diners with the timeless elegance of the design Art Decoall through the lens of the spectacular natural materials provided by PIATRAONLINE. With an extremely thought-provoking approach, this cover story presents the history of the layout and the team behind it, highlighting the role of natural stone in the concept and offering a series of questions for creative architects.
New York bagel and burger design concept | #NYBB

The venue started with a simple question: «What would it be like to bring the spirit of New York to Bucharest?» The answer lies in every detail of the design. The idea was to translate it vibration indescribable aspect of the American metropolis – from the atmosphere of a hidden diner in Manhattan, to the neon lights of Times Square – in an authentic space in Bucharest. New York bagels and burgers it’s not just a place where you come to eat, it’s a statement. It’s about doing things differently, combining strong flavors with bold design and giving the Floreasca neighborhood an infusion of New York beat.
New York Bagels and Burgers | #NYBB reflects the vision of the concept: an American diner atmosphere with Art Deco accents, high tables and round bar stools, walls decorated with geometric patterns and colorful posters. The bar and part of the walls are covered with vertical bands of opium red travertine AND Aurora pink marblealternating shades of intense red and powder pink. These rich natural textures – dramatic red-veined travertine and delicate pink marble – hit visual the viewer as they enter, giving the space a unique identity. In contrast, the polished stainless steel bar top and metallic elements give it the modern splendor typical of the 1930s. Retro lighting, with chandeliers reminiscent of film noir and reinterpreted paintings (Renaissance figures holding burgers instead of fruit) complete the playfully elegant atmosphere. The result is an interior that invites you to stay for hours, immersed in a cinematic and culinary experience at the same time.
The project bears the signature of the architecture firm Yellow Officealso known for structures such as GIST, Mamizza OR KANE. in the agreement #NYBBthe team combined the shapes sharp and bold Art Deco-inspired geometries with natural stone textures and strong red-based colors. Everything is designed to «strike» visually – from the play of materials on the counter, to the personalized graphics on the walls – and to transpose a part of the soul of New York into the landscape of Bucharest. “It may seem like just a dot on the map, but for us it was an entire process of research and creativity. All to bring a slice of New York closer to you,” confess the designers, underlining the attention with which the elements that make up the identity of the place were chosen.
Natural materials from the new Slab Gallery collection
A special chapter in the history of this project are the chosen materials. PIATRAONLINEleader in the natural stone market in Romania, supplied the spectacular slabs from its collection Plate gallery used indoors. The bar and walls were paneled opium red travertine (seven slabs cut to modular size) e Aurora pink marble (a slab, used as an accent). Travertine Red Opium, with its rich burgundy hue and unique grain pattern, it brings energy and wow factor in design, while marble Pink Aurorawith shades of pink and white, it adds a touch of vintage elegance.
These materials come from Plate gallery – gallery PIATRAONLINE dedicated to the exclusive slabs – which they offer exceptional collections, in limited editions, for special projects that want to generate inspiration. The close collaboration with PIATRAONLINE allowed the customization of the stone pieces in the required dimensions (e.g. 20×80 cm strips for cladding) and the selection of the perfect shades to reproduce the desired Art Deco palette.
Therefore, the space #NYBB it also becomes a showcase of how natural materials can be enhanced in contemporary interior design.
The architects behind the concept: Yellow Office
The project New York bagels and burgers bears the imprint Yellow office studioarchitecture and design studio in Bucharest, founded in 2008 by the architect. Vladimir Mindru (founder) and consolidated together with the architect. Anna Irina Lupu (partner) and their creative team. The two architects graduated from UAUIM «Ion Mincu» and share a common vision of contemporary design, defined by combining utility with aesthetics and a lifelong curiosity for experimentation and evolution. Yellow Office’s portfolio includes a variety of projects – from innovative restaurants and HoReCa spaces (such as 14th Lane, Mamizza, KANE) to residential developments – all with the common denominator of attention to detail and the desire to create memorable spatial experiences.
style Yellow Office it is a contemporary eclectic, adapted to the context of each project. In the case of #NYBB, the architects chose to tell a courageous story, inspired by nostalgia and pop culture: «Yellow Office was born from the desire to create quality visual content – architecture and interior design – and to always bring something fresh. Our projects always seek the balance between functional and spectacular, and #NYBB exemplifies this balance perfectly»declares Vladimir Mindru AND Anna Irina Lupu. Their team of just 3 people proves that passion and creativity can transform relatively small spaces (like this bagel shop) into places with a big impact on the local community.
Natural stone in HoReCa structures
The NY Bagels & Burgers project is an example of this the added value that natural stone brings to HoReCa design. In a restaurant or bar, the materials must not only be aesthetic, but also durable and easy to maintain – exactly the chapters in which stone excels. Marble AND the travertine used here give the space an elegance timeless eo remarkable resistancebeing materials capable of coping with heavy traffic without losing its charm. Each natural stone slab has its own personality, with unique grains and colors, which add authenticity and memorability to the design. Furthermore, stone surfaces reflect light in a pleasant way, amplifying the brightness of the environment and creating that «high-end» vibe. specific for the most important locations.
From a practical point of view, natural stones such as travertine and marble also offer the advantage of easy maintenance: they are easy to clean and age beautifully, acquiring a patina without degrading. In the hospitality sector, where the furnishings must remain impeccable over time, this durability translates into long-term savings and maintaining a premium image. Last but not least, the use of natural stone can contribute to the acoustic and thermal comfort of the space (stone-clad walls absorb sounds and provide thermal inertia), increasing customer comfort. Hence, the choice of materials PIATRAONLINE For #NYBB it was not only an aesthetic choice, but also a strategic one, perfectly integrating form and function.
Art Deco style – iconic of 1930s New York
Central design theme no.NYBB it’s inspiration Art Decoan iconic style of early 20th century New York architecture. Art Deco born in the 1920s and 1930s, synonymous with glamour, luxury and unlimited trust in technological progress. In New York, the era The Roaring Twenties it gave birth to sumptuous skyscrapers such as the Chrysler Building or the Empire State Building – emblematic buildings that embody the Art Deco aesthetic through pronounced verticality, elegant geometric shapes and elaborate ornamentation. Art Deco buildings were often clad in fine materials: natural stone facades (limestone, travertine, granite), colored marble inserts, shiny metallic accents (brass, stainless steel), and decorative bas-reliefs. The strong color palette, often featuring tones of red, gold, black and royal blue, gave these structures an intense, almost cinematic visual energy.
In the cinema of the 1930s and 1950s Art Deco sets played an important role, whether it was the glamorous interiors of American film noir or the movie theaters of the time. The style was associated with the opulence, modernity and optimism of the interwar period. In the context of the #NYBB setting, the Art Deco elements (the zigzag lines and geometric shapes on the walls, the retro lamps, the combination of deep red stone with shiny metal) really evoke that classic movie set vibe. Basically, when you walk into NY Bagels & Burgers you feel like a temporal salt: it’s like entering the set of a mid-century Hollywood film, but transposed into the dynamics of the present.
This fusion of old and new, between historic New York and contemporary Bucharest, is what makes this place truly special.
